Operatives from the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a couple attempting to sell their two-year-old son in order to fund a move to Canada.
The arrest was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson.
The couple, aged 28 and 22, were detained at Isolo General Hospital, where they had expressed their intention to sell their child.
“At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the Isolo Divisional Police Officer received information regarding the couple’s plan. Officers promptly responded and intercepted the couple at the hospital,” Hundeyin said.
The child, a two-year-old boy, has been rescued. During interrogation, the couple admitted they planned to sell the baby to finance the man’s relocation to Canada in search of better opportunities.
The investigation is ongoing.
