Kogi State, Nigeria, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the November 11, 2023, Kogi State governorship election, has announced his intention to challenge the recent Court of Appeal decision upholding Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo’s victory.
In a statement released, Ajaka expressed his determination to reclaim what he termed a stolen mandate. This declaration came shortly after the Court of Appeal in Abuja confirmed Ododo as the duly elected Governor of Kogi State.
“We acknowledge and respect the decision of the Court of Appeal,” Ajaka stated. “However, we strongly believe that irregularities and manipulations influenced the outcome of this petition.”
Ajaka emphasized his commitment to the people of Kogi State and vowed not to let the Court of Appeal’s decision deter his mission. He assured his supporters that he would pursue all legal means to reclaim the mandate.
“I call on all our supporters to remain calm and peaceful. We must continue to uphold the principles of democracy and fight for justice through legal means,” Ajaka urged.
He also extended his gratitude to his legal team for their dedication and commitment throughout the legal battle. Despite the disappointing outcome, Ajaka commended their efforts and assured continued support in the fight for justice.
Ajaka encouraged his supporters not to lose hope and to remain relentless in their pursuit of justice. “We cannot afford to be deterred by setbacks or disheartened by temporary defeats. Our cause is just, and our determination will not waver,” he affirmed.
Looking ahead, Ajaka promised to prepare diligently for the Supreme Court case, leaving no stone unturned in the quest for justice. He called on his political followers and citizens of Kogi State to remain steadfast and resolute.
“Our stolen mandate will be reclaimed, and the will of the people will prevail,” Ajaka concluded. “Together, we shall overcome this temporary setback and emerge victorious.
