The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has referred Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for mental assessment following a distressing incident on July 8, 2024. Yushau caused significant public concern by climbing a high broadband mast at ASO Radio in Katampe, Abuja, and attempting to take his own life.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, Yushau will face charges of attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement under sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act, if he is found to be mentally stable after evaluation.

Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, emphasized the importance of law-abiding behavior among residents, stating that the police will not permit any actions that threaten public order.

Yushau’s drastic action was reportedly motivated by demands for the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy and a call for improved security measures.
