Thousands of residents of thirteen communities along the popular Elebu Estate, off Akala road, Ibadan have pleaded with Governor Seyi Makinde to save them from untold suffering they experience as a result of deplorable condition of the only road that serves the communities.

Despite several attempts they have made to get the attention of the state government, they are yet to feel the presence of the government in the area.

Prophet Gideon Adebare Owoseni, The Spiritual Father, African Jerusalem Christian Ministry, who spoke on behalf of the communities said, “We maintained the road for more than eight years but we can’t continue because it is capital intensive.”

“Residents of the area cannot access the Health Centre and has since been closed down all because of the bad road. There are more than 100 schools including public and private. If it rains around 7pm, people who live here cannot go out or come in.”

“We are pleading with Governor Seyi Makinde who has done so much on road infrastructure, that he should please pay attention to this road that links several communities.”

In the same vein, Mr Abiola Oladeji who is the Chairman of the Landlord Association in the area recounted his own ordeal saying, “Rain has just started. During rainfall, we always carry our pregnant wives on our backs because of the deplorable condition of the road.

“Thirteen communities use this road. They are Idi Ahun, Asaka, Araromi, Abobo, Abese, Aba’do, Biola, Agbada, Mekun, Aba Ayo, Bola, Olosun, Temidire and African Jerusalem. The road will be useful for all these communities when constructed. We have written letters to the Ministry of Works but we are yet to get feedback from them”.

A student from one of the three public schools in the area, Saheed Boluwatife, said some of his colleagues had sustained injuries on commercial motorcycles because vehicles can no longer ply the road”.

In two separate letters addressed to the Ministry of Works and Governor Makinde by Evangelist Femi Ogundeji, he stated that the road has been abandoned for years and it has reached a point that the governor should help them out.
